During the games, there is much to celebrate. Nations unify around the games, and even as their athletes compete with one another, there's a shared thrill and commonality in a professional experience. Everyone dreams of basking in the glow of gold medals.
But there is also a dark side of competition, and the world in general. We see it in the pride and self-centeredness of some athletes and spectators, or even in ourselves. We see it in the suffering, war, disease, and crime all around us. We regularly rebel against God and His ways, which leads to a world full of darkness.
Jesus proclaimed, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).
Jesus’s light is powerful enough to overcome our selfishness. He loves us enough to call us out of darkness and into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).
Jesus says "I am the Light of the world."
